Brightspeed, county engineer reach agreement for fiber-optic cable installation
LIMA — Allen County commissioners voted Thursday to approve a Road Use Maintenance Agreement between the commissioners, the county engineer and Brightspeed of Ohio to allow for the installation of both aerial and buried fiber-optic cable lines to improve access to high-speed internet.
The agreement will allow for the company to use right-of-way on county roads to install the cable, foregoing any need to purchase easements from property owners. With buried cables going down to a depth of 4 feet underground, the agreement had to be made to provide adequate oversight of the project to protect other buried infrastructure.

Holmes County seeks ODOT approval to lower speed limits on eight roads
Things may be slowing down a tad in Holmes County, at least on several of its county byways.
The Holmes County Engineer’s Office recently completed a speed study on eight of the county roads, hoping to adjust the allowable speed on each by creating a slower speed limit.
The roads evaluated during the speed limit studies include County Roads 27, 35, 52, 108, 141 and 400 — all of which are being looked at to reduce the speed limit to 45 mph — as well as County Road 19 (40 mph) and County Road 25 (50 mph).

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County Engineer’s office and ODOT are planning for a bridge replacement in Austintown, but not for at least two and a half years.
They’re looking to replace the current concrete beam bridge deck on Four Mile Run Road with a concrete box-beam structure. The bridge was built in 1931 and has received a poor rating. It will cost about $550,000 to build a new one.
